Together we can

make a difference

160 Galgos are abandoned every day

In 2009 Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert (FBM) began operating a shelter in Spain for abused and abandoned Galgo dogs (aka Spanish Greyhounds). An estimated 60,000 Galgos are abandoned at the end of hunting season each year. We are a 501(c)3 charitable corporation helping to carry out FBM’s mission in America to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Galgos, and bring attention to the mass abuse of this noble breed.

The Dog

The Galgo Espanol is an ancient breed of sighthound, sometimes called a “Spanish Greyhound”. While there are several minor differences between Galgos and Greyhounds in appearance . . .

I could not believe that these noble dogs were and still today are victims of abandonment and cruelty of many types
